Nha Trang - 1996
These are the feet of a Montagnard lady - a tribal lady from the mountains behind Nha Trang. I was visiting her house with her grandson and she let me lie on the floor to photograph her feet. She must have thought I was quite mad. I was so taken knowing that her age she would have gone through both the French and American times while living the tough life of any third world woman who farms, yet she was so composed and, after a tumultuous life, finally having a few years of rest.
Bo Trach Hamlet, Phong Nha - May 2008
We met Bich and her husband Ben in 2007 and visited them three times in the two years. Bich's mum, Ba Lanh, is a stalwart. As a young lady she helped build the Ho Chi Minh trail that ran through the area close to and over the Laotian border. The Viets say... people died building every ... meter of the trail. When I shot this photo Ba Lanh was taking a short rest from harvesting her rice paddies. I consider it a honour to be allowed to get so 'in her face'. dfadsfasdfasdfadfdf to work on this.
Hoi An - April 2008
Yes - I did set this shot up. I had tried to capture it 'naturally' many times of the years but to no avail. I took over 1000 shots to get this. The light on the net is beautiful. I used a very fast shutter speed with my camera on 'continuous shooting mode'.
Cho Lon - November 2007
French colonial architecture it is but it almost fortress-like. One day I will go back and find out more of the history of this house.
Thap Cham - March 2008
Lots and lots and lots of chillies drying! They covered an area the size of a tennis court.
Phong Nha - May 2008
There are many such churches in this area. In the tower to the left holds the casing of a large artillery shell which is used as a gong to call the faithful.
Cho Lon - September 2009
Corrugated sheets clad this house that has been standing for many years.
Da lat - March 2006
French colonials built holiday houses in the mountains to escape the heat along the coast. From Sai Gon they went to Da Lat, from Hue and Da Nang they went to Bach Ma and from Ha Noi, to Sa Pa. A lot of the houses in Da Lat have been renovated now.
Thap Cham - March 2008
Ducklings are herded in to the river to feed.
Mekong Delta - 1994

Lak Lake, Buon Ma Thuot - May 2007
Riding an elephant across the lake is great fun!
Hoi An - 2004
I was with my students on a field tip on a boat cruising around the river when when we came across this smartly dressed dude tending to his buffalo on the river bank.
