Vision Viet Nam - Photography by Helen Savory

PHILOSOPHY:

You hire a photographer when you want to be sure of capturing that special 'moment in time'. In these days of cheap digital cameras and camera phones it is easy to forget that there is a huge difference between a snapshot that captures an event and a professional quality photographer who captures the spirit of the moment with a beautiful composition, lighting and years of experience that brings it out in all of its glory.

The goal of a portrait photographer is to capture some of the essence of their subject; their spirit, their personality, their vibrance and reflect how they interact with their environment and each other. We want to produce a photograph, not only worthy of hanging on the wall, but one that also stirs emotions in the viewer.

The challenge for a portrait photographer is in understanding a a subject whom they know very little about and to put them at ease so that there natural beauty and spirit can be captured in the images. For this process to work a trust is needed. My success as a portrait photographer comes from my ability to empathise with my subjects, put them at ease and encourage adults and children to relax and feel comfortable in front of the lens. I get to know my subjects and I continue to shoot until I am capturing their essence and not stiff poses.I

TECHNIQUE AND EQUIPMENT:

I use natural light as much as possible especially when photographing young children. I have portable studio lights and backgrounds for the more traditional studio photograph. I use only Canon's professional series cameras and lenses.

LOCATION:

To make the experience as stress free as possible I travel to photograph you and your family in familiar surroundings - be that in your home, garden, park or beach. I cover the whole Mid North Coast area.

TIME:

It generally takes me three hours to do a family shoot. For the best light I like to shoot early morning and late afternoon. Images will be available within two working days of the shoot.

COST:

A full family portrait shoot costs only $280. This includes an a free initial consultation, the time to shoot, computer processing (is takes several hours to get the photos just right and to convert into black & white), an online gallery and two DVDs containing all of the successful shots on high resolution TIFF format.

GUARANTEE:

My portrait photography comes with a guarantee that you will be happy. In fact, that's when you pay me - when you are happy with the job you've hired me to do.

Children can sometimes be uncooperative and with the best will in the world a shoot may have to be postponed if your bundle of joy is having a tantrum. All good portrait photographers have their tricks but sometimes it is best just to come back another day, which I am happy to do to ensure you get the best results.

IMAGES & SAFEKEEPING:

All processed successful images - the ones that show your family in their best light, are processed in both colour and black & white and burned onto two DVD's in high resolution TIFF format. Photographs are also uploaded onto my free online gallery. This gives you a password protected gallery of your photos, which you can then easily share with your friends and family without the need to print and post images or email large files.

PRINTS:

I use an 8-ink Epson Stylus Photo Printer (and genuine Epson inks) on specialty Epson paper which has an archival life of 200 years.

A4 (29.7 x 21 cm): $15

A3+ (48.3 x 32.9 cm): $25

with 10% off on second print.

For larger (and also a bit cheaper) prints I recommend the OzPrint Shop in Coffs Harbour. With the password for your album, owner Ray can access the photos via the web and then post the prints off to you making life very easy!

I get my photos framed by Ryan at Sawtell Framing in Toormina. Ryan is also a photographer and has some great images in his gallery above his workshop.

COPYRIGHT:

In Australia the photographer owns the copyright to all images to reproduce for exhibitions, photographic contests and websites unless otherwise contracted. I always ask permission to do this and am very sensitive to the content I make public.
